Established in 1999, Environmental Design Consultants (EDC) is an architecture and interior design consultancy in Indore; founded and managed by architects Shital and Paresh Kapade. The EDC mission is to deliver exceptional design ideas and solutions to clients through a creative blend of human need, environmental stewardship, value creation, art, and science. The blend of extraordinary design and technical expertise has seen EDC deliver several streamlined, timely, and budgeted projects over the years. A well-studied and customized response to the needs and aspirations of the client leads to innovative and impactful architecture and design. EDC encourages research; so multidisciplinary professional teams are seen re-imagining solutions to meet the challenges of the built environment.

Nestled in the heart of Indore city is Srujan, an office space-cum-residence for architects Shital and Paresh Kapade, the co-founders of Environmental Design Consultants. Private and spacious – the building is an ode to silent luxury. With extensive open spaces, large openings, and a colour palette comprising rich, earthy hues, Srujan is a four-level structure with a large front façade.

The front façade opens up into the garden of the ground level, looking out onto the adjoining open road – facing North. The permeable architectural language of the bungalow allows for openings and terraces across all four storeys – fenestrations and thresholds that bring the unbuilt open and green spaces, along with the outside, into the built. While the lower two floors of Srujan house the EDC workspace, the top two floors function as the privateresidence for the architects’ family.
