Close on the heels of the bumper issue of Insite on the Indore Regional Centre, comes another special issue focused on LIGHTING!

This industry is perhaps the fastest developing one from among those allied with architecture and interior designing. In this issue, rather than the usual showcasing of glamorous examples of lighting, we see a host of technical and informative features written by industry experts, and architects. A noteworthy article by S. Chakraborty, Vice President, Surya Roshni Limited, explains the medical syndrome called ICU Psychosis – and the role of lighting in providing a solution for it.

The IIID, as an institute, is growing at a rapid pace, too!! On the 14th of May, IIID installed its 23rd centre at Thane.

As such, the IIID is not new to Thane, as designers from Thane have been a part of the Mumbai Chapter of the IIID - since its inception. However, we realized that the IIID Mumbai Chapter programmes are always held in south Mumbai, or western suburbs; and as a result members from Thane and areas around, find it inconvenient to attend, due to constraints like travel time and late hours. And thus, a split was necessary.

Besides, in the last ten years, Thane has grown and developed significantly. Also, it is a known fact that Thane is a cultural sub-capital of Maharashtra in today’s times. Thane is a complete developed township, and it’s going to be a lifestyle destination in future. Many new projects are coming up in this town; the infrastructure is also improving with the Government planning the monorail and flyovers. Recreational facilities are also improving to cater to the Thanekars.

In view of these issues, the formation of the Thane centre is more appropriate and significant; as all members can take advantage of IIID’s events and participate in large numbers to achieve IIID’s goals.
