It was amid the awe-inspiring ambience of Jaspur Art Centre, created by Karan Grover... It was May 31, 2008... It was World Interiors Day... And it was a proud moment for all of us at AIM, when we presented INSITE in its new avatar to the fraternity of interior architects... Today is a proud moment for us at AIM, as we present the 50th issue of INSITE to the fraternity...

While standing at this milestone, I feel contented with the journey, so far. While Looking Back, I am overjoyed by the nostalgic memories of this journey and I remember what Chandra Mohan Jain wrote: “The real thing is not the goal, the real thing is the beauty of movement. The real thing is not reaching, the real thing is the journey, the very travelling. It is so beautiful, why bother about the goal? And if you bother about the goal, you will miss the journey, and the journey is life.” This man, one of the greatest thinkers and orators of our times, is also known as Rajneesh or simply Osho. Looking back, I realise that he is right. The journey of these 50 issues was not easy – it had its pains and perils but there was also pleasure, and excitement about the unexpected opportunities to meet some beautiful and ignited minds. In short, it was a journey of pains and gains, and it was a beautiful movement, I must say...

At the same time, we have not deviated from our goal – aiming@excellence, which is in the DNA of AIM. This is reflected in INSITE in the form of our continuous and consistent endeavour to raise the bar, issue after issue. But we firmly believe that “success is a journey and not the destination” and hence, all of us at AIM know that we have many more miles to go and cross many more milestones. The punch line of the Johnny Walker advertisement – Keep Walking – is like a maxim for us.

I have said so much about the past because it's like a recorded history – whatever we have done or achieved is before everyone to see, assess and comment... But when I touch the second part of the theme – Looking Ahead – it feels like crystal gazing to me! Because, the problem of the future is that it comes only one day, at a time... That's why, with due commitment to aiming@excellence, I would like to use a two-worded quote of Tom Peters, from his bestseller In Search of Excellence, to conclude my fiftieth piece in INSITE – “underpromise; overdeliver”…
